Romance on Rails

Mafutha's parents were then married for fifty years, while Mafutha and his darlingmost wificle twenty years.

America gained Independence on July 4th.

Mafutha lost his on the 5th.

His parents on the 6th.

Seventy years together, in total, discounting mighty America. It had to be celebrated. Parents came, we collected the kids and Mafutha's brother. It was a tribal meeting of adventurous magnitude.

All boarded at Muizenberg or, as Mafutha calls it, Amuzingberg

The yellow train hugged the coastline and klikiti klakt it way past the scenic beauty of False Bay. At some places, it looked as if the train was riding on the cold, very upset Atlantic Ocean, as it rounded bends.

St James and its famous beach, Kalk Bay where the Brass Bell Restaurant is on the railway station. Or on the ocean, depending upon your perspective.

Brass Bell is a renowned restaurant.  On to the warmer waters of Fish Hoek, where Bayside Centre sits between the railway line and the ocean.

Then Sunny Cove, Glencairn and on to Simon's Town! We undertook a lovely walk past the Admiral's Residence and visited the very interesting Naval Museum.

The festive dinner was enjoyed at the Salty Sea Dog, to fulfill the wishes of Mafutha's parents - Pa wanted snoek and Ma her beloved hake fillet. The venue was chosen for its idyllic setting in the harbour area, right on the moorings of the yacht basin.

A tradition lunch of fried fish & chips at Salty Sea Dog is always recommend.

Too soon, a most memorable day was over as we returned by train to Muizenberg.

I am going to write more about this rather unique coast-hugging rail experience.
